Hanover, Pennsylvania is 34 miles NW of Towson, Maryland (center to center) and 39 miles NW of Baltimore, Maryland. The town is located in York county, it is part of the York metro area. Hanover History In 1727, an Irish noble man, John Digges, purchased land which included the area known as Hanover. At that time, the area was called Digges Choice. A group of Catholics initiated a settlement in 1730, that was known as the Conewego Settlement. Hanover was settled in 1730, when settlers from Pennsylvania and Maryland arrived. The community, which was named after a city in Germany, was the venue of a Civil War battle in 1863. Hanover was incorporated in 1815.
